Elechi Amadi (12 May 1934 – 29 June 2016)-In honour of Literary Excellence.

"When beggars die there are no comets seen; The heavens themselves blaze forth the death of princes."-William Shakespeare (Julius Caesar).

How else can we best describe this personality? He was one of Africa's finest literary icons who came from an age that was overly conscious of and ready to embrace the task it was peculiarly designed by providence to perform. This age saw the rise of such other literary giants as Chinua Achebe, Cyprian Ekwensi, Chukwuemeka Ike, Onuorah Nzekwu, Wole Soyinka, Flora Nwanpa, and the likes. Among these giants of literature, Amadi's stature as an accomplished writer is not diminished. He represented one of the very best in literary circles, a fact he never failed prove through his great and incisive novels. Reading any of his works, you cannot but appreciate the extent of Amadi's reach, the power of his mind and the originality of his thoughts.

It is therefore with a heavy heart that I join the rest of my fellow country men and women in mourning the exit of this literary genius who, through dint of hard work, carved a niche for himself and his race in the literary world.

Adieu, Amadi!  Writer par excellence! One of  the very best to grace the literary scene!
