The Federal Government plans to start the recruitment of 500,000 corps-teachers who will be deployed to primary schools around the country.
The recruitment exercise is part of the Federal Government's direct intervention programme to curb the growing menance of unemployment and reduce the level of poverty in the country as promised by the current administration. According to the the Senior Special Assistant to Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, applicants can begin their application online from Sunday. The initiative which goes by its portal name: “The N-Power Teacher Corps", will engage and train 500,000 young unemployed graduates in a paid volunteer programme of a 2-year duration. The Federal Government plans to pay monthly stipends of N23,000 to each volunteer teacher who will also "get computer devices that will contain information necessary for their specific engagement, as well as information for their continuous training and development," Akande said.
Other aspects of the social investment scheme include the "N-Power Knowledge" and the "N-Power Build" which are geared towards technical and entrepreneurial development respectively.
