Niger State uncovers 22 ghost schools, 24 head teachers

Following a staff audit ordered by the Chairman of Chanchaga Local Government Area of Niger State, Alhaji Inuwa Adamu Fuka, about 22 ghost primary schools and 24 ghost head teachers were uncovered in the area.
This startling discovery is coming on the heels of other revelations made by the state governor, Abubakar Bello, in an interview last week, that the state government was initially expending the whooping sum of N150m a week in running the Government House, a sum the governor thought was on the high side and deserved pruning given the prevailing economic situation in the country.

Investigations into the latest discovery showed that the ghost schools and head teachers, had already gulped down very huge sums as the state was losing a whopping N76m monthly to the racket.

In addition to the ghost schools and head teachers, it was discovered that some senior staff of the local government, who had either been redeployed or retired, still received salaries well beyond the first quarter of this year.
