Dream Team Six crashes out of gold medal contention, as Usain Bolt cruises into 200m final

It is the end of the road for Nigeria's Olympic football team as far as the gold medal in the football event is concerned as they were beaten by Germany yesterday.

The game saw a lacklustre Nigerian side fall 2 goals to nothing to a German side that looked more hungry for the victory.

The first goal came barely nine minutes into the game from the foot of Lukas Klostermann who capitalized on a defensive slip to slot in the ball from a Max Meyer cross.

The Nigerian side tried to fight back and had several clear chances following attempts by Sadiq Umar, and Mikel Obi's stunning effort, but it was the German side which proved more dangerous as Nils Petersen, who came in as a replacement for Meyer, slotted in a late goal to secure Germany's hopes of playing in Sunday's final match against the vibrant Brazilian team.

Meanwhile, Nigeria still has a chance of coming away with a medal in the Bronze medal match up against Honduras on Saturday.

In a separate development, the world's fastest man, Usain Bolt, cruised into the final of the 200m race ahead of Canada's Andre de Grasse. Bolt ran 19.78 seconds to secure a place in the final and hopes to break his world record of 19.19 seconds in the final race which will not see the likes of American Justin Gatlin and Jamaican Yohan Blake competing, as the duo failed to qualify for the 200m final, a shocking twist for many.

Bolt, 29, and Grasse, 22, were spotted laughing as they crossed the finishing line in the semis.

"Andre was supposed to slow down. He didn't," he joked.

"I said: 'What are you doing, it is the semis?' He said he had to push me. "I was a bit lazy, I don't know why, but I executed it".

Bolt will be competing in the 200m final on Thursday, 18 August, 2016, 10:30pm (Brazilian time). For Nigerian viewers that will be around 2:30am Friday morning.
