Nigeria's U23 Olympic team to arrive Brazil hours before kickoff against Japan.

Reports reaching us has it that the Nigerian Olympic football team will make it to Brazil only hours before their first group match against Japan which is scheduled to take place at 9pm (Brazilian time) Thursday.

The team which was due to leave for Brazil a week ago had to wait in Atlanta until Thursday morning to commence their journey as a result of issues bordering on logistics such as the delay in the transfer of payment to the airline by Nigeria's Sports Ministry and the size of the plane by which they were to travel, which the players thought was too small.

However, they have since been airlifted and are scheduled to arrive Manaus — north of Rio where the Olympic Games are held, around 3pm (Brazilian time), which leaves them only 6 hours to prepare for their group's opener against Japan.

Nigeria, which is in Group B alongside Sweden, Columbia and Japan, is expected to make it out of the group given her sterling Olympic records in football. It is hoped that the Siasia-led team, which has the veteran Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi, as captain, would put the disappointment behind them and give Japan the thrashing they deserve.

Nigerian viewers are to hook up with the game around 2am (Nigerian time) Friday.
